Hi, I’m Michelle Newcomb, LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist), a trauma-informed and mindfulness-based clinical supervisor and psychotherapist practicing in Ventura, CA. With over a decade of experience in the mental health field, I specialize in working with adults navigating bipolar disorder, relationship challenges, and trauma and PTSD.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working in a range of clinical settings—including community mental health agencies, outpatient treatment centers, school-based programs, and private practice—which has given me a broad and nuanced understanding of how emotional suffering shows up across different stages of life and environments.
I have extensive experience supporting individuals living with bipolar disorder, including those newly diagnosed as well as those who’ve been managing mood fluctuations for years. My work focuses on helping clients build emotional insight, track patterns, develop tools to manage highs and lows, and explore the impact of mood instability on identity, work, and relationships. My approach is collaborative and strengths-based—I work alongside clients to help them feel more empowered, regulated, and in control of their lives.
Trauma and PTSD are central to my work. I work with clients healing from complex developmental trauma, acute traumatic events, and vicarious trauma (especially among helping professionals). I understand how trauma lives in the body and in relationships, and I draw from somatic and attachment-based practices to support clients in finding safety, regulation, and integration. Whether you’re feeling emotionally shut down, overwhelmed, disconnected, or reactive, therapy can be a space to rebuild a sense of safety and connection—to yourself and others.
In addition, I work with individuals and couples facing relationship issues, including communication breakdowns, emotional disconnection, attachment wounds, codependency, and challenges around trust or intimacy. I also support clients through breakups, divorce, and the emotional complexity of beginning or ending relationships. My relational approach helps clients examine and shift patterns rooted in past relationships, family dynamics, and early attachment experiences.
In addition to my clinical work, I provide supervision and consultation to associate therapists. Mentoring new clinicians is a vital part of my practice, and I’m passionate about supporting others as they develop confidence, clinical clarity, and sustainability in their work. My goal as a therapist is to help you feel more grounded, more emotionally connected, and better equipped to navigate life’s inevitable challenges.
